Description
(Original Caption) Fifth Avenue looking south from 42nd street in 1880. Avenue shops were then undreamed of. The paving was cobblestone. Telegraph wires and poles made the streets unsightly. The only lights were flickering gas lamps. The building at left is Rutgers Female College, opposite is the old reservoir.
