A father holds his child's hand as he leads his family down the frozen Zanskar River Gorge. Known to outsiders as the Chadar frozen river trek (Chadar trek, Zanskar ice trek), each year in winter, hundreds of Ladakhi people make the 5 day walk on ice from their remote mountain homes in the Zanskar Valley down the frozen Zanskar River to the beginning of the nearest motorable road in the area. Location: Zanskar river gorge, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Himalaya, India
