Description
Eadweard James Muybridge, British-American photography pioneer, 1889. Muybridge lecturing at the Royal Society in London. After emigrating to America in 1852, Muybridge became a professional photographer and was eventually appointed chief photographer for the United States government. In 1877, he used a series of still photographs to show that a trotting horse at times has all its feet off the ground, and in 1880 he devised the zoopraxiscope, a precurser of cinematography.
