(Original Caption) Dr. John Von Neumann (above), 53, world famous mathematician and member of the Atomic Energy Commission, died of cancer at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center here February 8th. Von Neumann had been under treatment at the hospital for several months. He is shown here at Princeton, New Jersey, in October, 1954. Von Neumann, a native of Hungary, was credited with speeding development of the US hydrogen bomb by perfecting electronic computers without which the necessary mathematical calculations could probably not have been made.
