Description
(Original Caption) 11/7/1885-Craigellachie, British Columbia, Canada- Without a doubt one of the most famous historical photographs in Canada, the Driving of the Last Spike, was shot by Alexander Ross at 9:22 am. The Hon. Donald A. Smith, later to become Lord Strathcona and Mount Royal, drives home an ordinary iron spike, completing the transcontinental line between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Smith is flanked on the left by Sandford Fleming and by W.C. Van Horne.
