Artist's Description

(Original Caption) "Smootch" by Ted Morehead, selected as one of the best pictures of the year by Edward Steichen, judge, and Tom Maloney, editor for U.S. Camera Annual, 1942, published this week. This is an accidental picture, developing out of Morehead's attempt to get a standard picture of boy with dog. There was no opportunity for focusing or sighting and only a small part of the negative was used. Morehead accidently released the shutter to get this pleasing result. The photographer used a 3 1/4 x 4 1/4-inch speed graphic fitted with Zeiss Tessar lens. Using Super XX film with a Zeiss yellow-green filter, the exposure was for 1/100th second at F:8.
