(Original Caption) 10/25/1961 -New York,NY- : With her torch held high as a beacon to the land of the free, the Statue of Liberty nears her 75th birthday. The famed statue, located for all to see in the middle of the New York harbor, had for years been the symbol of freedom from peoples from oppressed lands. Recently, however, immigrants have not been given a view of the famed lady since most of them arrive in the United States via airplane and arrive at one of the airports located miles from the harbor. Any sight of the statue would be at long range, from the air. There had been talk of erecting a replica of the statue at N.Y.C.'s international airport.
