(Original Caption) Depositors gather as N.Y. bank closes as bankrupt...Clarke Brothers, private bankers at 154 Nassau St., New York City, since their organization since 1843, closed their doors and filed a petition of bankruptcy in the Federal Court, with a request for a receiver. This photo shows the angry crowd of men and women, all depositors, who waited for the bank to open so that they could draw their money. Unprecedented withdrawals caused the crisis, and the payment of 100 cents on the dollar was promised to the somewhat skeptical depositors.
