Artist's Description

Citizens of Vienna are shocked to read of the death of Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria in the so-called Mayerling Incident, 31st January 1889. The bodies of the prince and his lover Baroness Mary Vetsera were discovered in a hunting lodge on 30th January, and although the press was told that he died of heart failure, it later transpired that they had both died of gunshot wounds.
