(Original Caption) Cuba- Today, January 28, the people of Cuba and the peoples of the whole American continent commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the birth of the hero of Cuban independence, Jose Marti. By his inspiration, eloquence, and pen, his burning spirit and will gave his life for freedom at Dos Rios, Cuba, May 19th, 1895. Marti's talents, selflessness and genius stand out despite the passing of the years. Marti believed in and worked for the unity of the hemisphere. He traveled about the America's and was deeply moved by the history of those American nations which had already won freedom. It was with pride that he said, "I am a son of the Americas; I owe myself to her".
