(Original Caption) 5/24/1962-New York: One minute after blast-off (which came at 8:45 A.M., EDT), the Atlas rocket carrying M. Scott Carpenter into space is shown on this TV screen in Grand Central Station here as it roars aloft from its Cape Canaveral launching pad May 24th. Thousands of people, most of them enroute to their jobs, stopped to watch the momentous flight which was expected to take Carpenter around the earth three times.
