(Original Caption) 4/23/1937-New York, NY- A crowd of over five hundred Negro men and women walked round and round the New York City police headquarters in expression of sympathy for Father Major Divine, the Negro cult leader who was arrested for assault. Divine was found by Milford, Connecticut police hiding behind a furnace in one of his "heavens." Shortly after his booking the crowd started to gather, necessitating the calling out of police reserves to keep the noisy crowd moving.
