Artist's Description

Members of the Chicago Cubs baseball team protest umpire George Moriarty (1884 - 1964) (center, in black) and his decisiion to call Phil Cavarretta out after an attempted steal second base during the 6th inning of the third game of the World Series against the Detroit Tigers at Wrigley Field, October 4, 1935. Other visible players are, from left, the Cubs' Billy Jurges (1908 - 1997) (#11), unidentified, Cavarretta, Augie Galan (1912 - 1993) (#51), unidentified, and manager Charlie Grimm (1898 - 1983) (in grey shirt, mostly obscured), Moriarty, the Tigers' pitcher Goose Goslin (1901 - 1971) (#4), and the Cubs' Frank Demaree (1910 - 1958) (#6), and Billy Herman (1909 - 1992) (#2).
