(Original Caption) New York, New York: Caisson in operation during building of the approach to the tunnel, being built under the Hudson River from New York to New Jersey. It is operated by means of compressed air, is heavily weighted down and as it sinks into the ground, it carries displaced mud and earth to he top where it is thrown aside.
