Charlemage hunting, 8th-9th century (1882-1884). Hunting in an Oriental/Eastern style with falcons. King of the Franks from 768, Charlemagne (c742-814) was crowned Emperor of the Romans in 800 AD by Leo III. His kingdom included almost all of western and central Europe.
