English statesman Joseph Chamberlain (1869-1940, second from the right), travelling on the cow-catcher at the front of a train during a visit to Uganda in his capacity as Colonial Secretary, 24th January 1903. On his right is chief engineer George Whitehouse, Mr S S Bagge, the Sub Commisioner of the Nawasha Province, and Charles Elliot, the Comissioner and Consul General of the East African Protectorate.
