Artist's Description

'Cades Cove is a lush valley surrounded by mountains and one of the most popular destinations in the Great Smoky Mountains. The Cove takes visitors on an 11-mile loop into another time, experiencing American heritage and wilderness around every turn. The early settlers came to this area in 1819 and by the 1850aas the population of Cades Cove peaked at 685, occupying 137 households. With this population growth the soil quality deteriorated.
