Artist's Description

Beaumont Lodge, Windsor, Berkshire, 1818. At the time of the engraving, Beaumont Lodge was the home of Viscount Ashbrook, a friend of George IV, who acquired the estate in 1805. The house had been rebuilt by Henry Emlyn in 1790. In 1854 it was sold to the Jesuits, who converted it into a training college, then a Catholic boarding school, which closed in 1967. Since 2003 Beaumont Lodge has been used as aconference centre. (Photo by The Print Collector/Print Collector/Getty Images)
