Artist's Description

'Battle of Waterloo', Belgium, 1815 (1817). Napoleon (1769-1821) French soldier and emperor, fleeing from the battlefield of Waterloo after his defeat by the British under Wellington and the Prussians commanded by Blucher. Waterloo marked the end of the French First Empire. Napoleon was exiled to St Helena, where he died in 1821. From History of the Wars Occasioned by the French Revolution by CH Gifford, 1817.
