Description
(Original Caption) 7/20/1944-Saipan Island: This tiny Jap baby being held by an American soldier, was one of the few survivors of "Death Valley," in the hills of Saipan so named by our troops because the Jap soldiers killed hundreds of their own troops and families rather than surrender to the Americans. The baby was found almost entirely covered by dirt and was rushed to a hospital in a jeep. ORIGINAL CAPTION
