(Original Caption) Admiral Richard E. Byrd, who heads "Operation Deep Freeze" at the bottom of the world, visits Little America, the base he established in 1929 on his expedition to Antarctica. From left by the flag are Admiral Byrd; Dr. Paul A. Siple, scientific advisor for Environmental Living; Major Murray Weiner, United States Air Force, and Eddie Goodale, United States Weather Bureau Member of the International Geophysical Year. Dr. Siple was a Boy Scout with Byrd on the expedition to the South Pole in 1933.
