Description
African sacred ibis (Threskiornis aethiopicus, or Ibis aethiopica). It is native to Africa and the Middle East. It is especially known for its role in the religion of the Ancient Egyptians, where it was linked to the god Thoth. Wood engraving after a drawing by Robert Kretschmer (German painter and illustrator, 1818 - 1872), published in 1891.
