Description
The aisle of arches along the north side of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi, UAE.This place is nothing but an architectural masterpiece :)The biggest mosque in the United Arab Emirates, and one of the biggest in world able to hold a capacity of 40,000 Muslims in prayer, the Sheikh Zayed Mosque is an architectural masterpiece. No matter where you face, in the courtyard or inside, each arch lines up, each dome is symmetrical, each line is perfect.Completed during Eid al-Adha in 2007, the $500 million mosque is now home to the grave after which the mosque is named, Sheikh Zayed, the first ruler of the modern United Arab Emirates. It is also home to the world's largest chandelier and the world's largest rug. (And if I may say, the chandelier is pretty grand and beautiful... but the rug? I prefer the one in the Sultanahmet Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey :P) And the material that lines the courtyard is so magnificently white, it blinds you in the Emirati sun.Hands down, the best mosque I've ever been to... so far.
