Performing an 'aarti' is perhaps the most basic of Hindu rituals, yet this universal system of paying respect to God has been fine-tuned to an art at the ghats of the river Ganga in Varanasi, India Pandits, trained like bally-dancers, synchronize their movements and prayers to create a phenomenon that is religious in significance but spectacular to the viewer as well. Now its a must see for the tourists to the city. The fire, smoke, bells and chants create an atmosphere, that has to be experienced!
