The Annunciation, diptych, mid 19th century, (1881). Etching of a small folding tabernacle in gilt bronze, silver, niello, bone and horn, made in Italy in the 1840s or early 1850s in the style of the late 15th century. The angel Gabriel, holding a lily, kneels before Mary. Above are God the father and the Holy Ghost in the form of a dove. From "The South Kensington Museum", a book of engraved illustrations, with descriptions, of the works of art in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (formerly known as the South Kensington Museum).
