Description
Globe Theatre, Bankside, Southwark, London, as it appeared c1598. Wood engraving after contemporary drawing. The original Globe Theatre opened in 1598 and staged several of Shakespeare's plays. It was closed down by the Puritans in 1642 and was destroyed to make room for tenements.
