Cerdon, France - May 27, 2016: Stone memorial of Ain maquis and resistance (Memorial des maquis de l'Ain et de la Resistance) during second World War in Cerdon small town in Ain, Bugey mountains in Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region in France (Europe). Monument of Resistance of Ain and Haut Jura also named Valley of Hell (memorial du Val d'Enfer in french) is a memorial attended a memorial and cemetery. Construction began June 26, 1949 for an inauguration July 29, 1951. Its main designer is the sculptor Charles Machet. The body of an unknown resistance fighter taken from the cemetery in Nantua was buried in ceremony presided over by Gaston Monnerville May 20, 1954. This War Memorial memory of 700 dead maquis of Ain and Haut Jura, will remain a testimony of gratitude to those who gave their lives for our freedom. An imposing statue high of seventeen meters in Gard stone represents France standing, freeing himself of his chains, in the guise of a woman who seems to spring from the mountain.
