Description
British film actress Deborah Kerr. Born Deborah Kerr-Trimmer in Helensburgh, Scotland in 1921, she trained as a dancer and won a scholarship to Sadler's Wells ballet school. Her interest turned to drama and she made her British film debut in the early 1940s. Her portrayal of a nun in 'Black Narcissus' (1946) brought her to the attention of Hollywood and she was cast opposite Clark Gable in 'The Hucksters' (1947). She starred in many films, including 'Quo Vadis' (1951), 'From Here to Eternity' (1953), 'The King and I' (1956) and 'An Affair to Remember' (1957). She made her Broadway debut in 1953 in 'Tea and Sympathy' and repeated the role on screen in 1956. Kerr retired in 1969 having received six best actress Oscar nominations but never winning.
