Artist's Description

Mrs. Elkus White (left), U.S. Ambassador to Denmark, discusses the crash of B-52 bmober near Thule with General Hunziker. The plane was carrying four unarmed hydrogen bombs when it crashed while on an airborne alert exercise. The Danes, who own Greenland, and prohibit nuclear weapons on or over their territory, protested the accidental loss of the bombs. Most of the pieces of the bombs have been uncovered, according to an Air Force spokesman. (Photo by Bettmann Archive/Getty Images)
