For our first exhibition at the Splashlight Gallery in New York City (January - March 2016), we selected informal black and white celebrity portraits. Highlights include Gordon Parks’ exquisite 1949 photograph of Ingrid Bergman shot in Italy during the filming of Stromboli; Al Wertheimer’s 1956 shot of Elvis in New York City on the singer’s first promotional tour; Jack Robinson’s classic, often whimsical studio portraits from the 1970s and ‘80s; Fred McDarrah’s photographs of Andy Warhol with his Brillo boxes, a rare shot of Robert Mapplethorpe in his studio, and Bob Dylan in Sheridan square; and Martyn Goodacre’s unexpectedly tender 1991 image of Ozzy Osbourne snuggling with his dog.
